When it comes to changing what is taking place in the world, the general approach is for someone to take action. This will give them the chance to do something about what is going on.

And, as far as they are concerned, this could be seen as the only way for them to make a difference. If they don't take action, then, they will be forfeiting their chance to make a difference.

A Different Way

However, what if doing something about what is going on 'out there' is not the only way for someone to change the world? Further, what if the very act of trying to resolve a problem helps to keep it in place and even makes it worse?

After hearing this, someone might struggle to understand how this could be so and come to the conclusion that this is not something that has any basis in reality. If they do respond in this way, it could be said that it won't be much of a surprise.

Two Reasons

Firstly, they will have an ego-mind that will cause them to see themselves as being separate from everyone and everything. Secondly, they are likely to live in a society that is a manifestation of this illusion and actively supports this way of seeing the world.

As a result of this, it is going to be perfectly normal for them to believe that doing something about an external problem is the only way to deal with it. But, if they are not separate from anyone or anything and are actively playing a part in what they see 'out there', it would mean that there is another option available to them.

Going Within

The other way for them to change the world would be for them to change themselves. If they were to take this approach, the first thing that they could do is to look into what it is that they want to change about the world; what it is that presses their buttons, so to speak

Once they have become aware of a few things, they could look into what arises within them when they think of these external problems. Once they get to this point, they could start to 'clear' what comes up.

The law of Correspondence

If one was merely an observer of their reality and therefore, was separate from it, it wouldn't matter what was taking place inside them. Nevertheless, as this is just an illusion, it will mean that one is playing a part in what they see.

Ergo, even though something may annoy them and give them the urge to do something, what they see 'out there' will also exist inside them to one degree or another. If this wasn't the case, it wouldn't be possible for them to 'observe' something externally.

No Chance

This could end up being something that will be dismissed, especially when it comes to the things 'out there' that they despise. They could believe that there is no chance that these things reflect what is going on inside them.
One could say that they themselves are the complete opposite, with this being the reason why they want to change them. Although this may appear to be the truth, it will probably show that they are too attached to their ego-mind to see what is going on.

Endless Defences

This part of them will see everything as being 'out there' and this is why self-awareness is so important. As through having self-awareness, one will be able to see past their defences and to be aware of what is going on.

This will give them the ability to see how their external reality is mirroring back what is taking place in both their conscious mind and unconscious mind. They will see that once something has been pushed out to their conscious awareness it won't just disappear; instead, it will play a part in what they experience in the external world.

The Silent Approach

Through being in tune with their own inner world and clearing what is inside them, their external world will start to change. This is because the part of them that allowed them to see something externally will have changed.

By doing the work on themselves and changing their world in the process, they will be changing the world as a whole. Their focus won't be on primarily changing what is going on 'out there', which will stop them from resisting what is that they want to change.

A Key Point

Not trying to change what is going on will mean that they won't be strengthening the very thing that they want to change. What this comes down to is that what is resisted is what will persist and grow.

If this wasn't how it worked, being against something and resisting it would be the best thing to do. What will be essential is for one to deal with their own baggage and to focus on creating more of what they want to see in their life and the world as a whole.

Final Thoughts

One thing that one can do to clear their inner world is to use something called ho'oponopono. This is an ancient Hawaiian healing prayer/mantra for forgiveness and reconciliation.

At this stage, taking responsibility for what shows in their reality might appear to make no sense but it might be the best thing for them to do if they truly want to make the world a better place. This approach will allow them to be the change that they want to see in the world as opposed to trying to change the world whilst being an example of what they are trying to change 'out there'.
